Educational Propaganda

With all of the Uproar around Obama’s speech.  I was hoping for a little bit more edge on his topics.  I thought he might quote Karl Marx or raise his fist in solidarity with the Black Panthers,  but to no avail.  He was appropriate, straightforward and had some basic unbiased points for all students.

 

 

I even think that some of his points veered away from what conservatives were hoping he would say.   He re-iterated the American “pull ourselves up by our bootstraps”  ideal, which to me, is a bit of a farce, but so be it, watch and think for yourself, write what you think in comments.

Struggle leads to Grace

Songs for these times.
I heard a couple songs about these times we're living in, and this one seemed to be the most perceptive and realistic. The song talks about not being able to pay the bills, but realizing that beauty lies in terrible times. I think there is a strange almost fatal optimism that is abound with Obama's inauguration, but it feels so good---and she's right, struggle does lead to grace.

Even in the most most horrific times, the most disparaging things that we have to overcome can and often do lead us to grace. Sometimes we don't even realize the grace because we are buried in doubt.

The economy is bad, people are losing jobs, depression is looming but in a strange way, we have set the stage for beautiful things to happen.

Here is another interesting video about these times. The song is catchy, but the video is pretty touching, its based on Gandhi's quote, "Be the Change you Hope to see in the World"

We did it!!

I don't think I will soon forget the feeling that I felt when Obama was declared president of the US, and everyone in the restaurant I was in stood up and started clapping and screaming. A tear in Meghans eyes and overwhelming joy in mine. Yesterday was a day for the history books.

I heard it many times today on the radio: Not since Lincoln signed the emancipation proclomation has there been a more important day than today. It is not a day for speeches, or prose, it is a day for poetry.

I am overjoyed by our countries decision to elect Obama, but I am a bit frusterated that in a state that votes for chickens to have bigger cages a proposition was passed that will make it illegal for all people to get married. I hope very deeply that this unconstitutional proposition is rejected in the state courts.
